Privacy Policy

OnTheWay ("the App") is operated by Shore Forge LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. It applies to the OnTheWay apps on both iOS and Android.
1. Information we collect
Location
The App requests access to your device location while in use. We use your location to:
- Auto-populate your trip origin
- Resume navigation from your current position
Continuous device location is processed on-device only. When you use your current location as a trip origin, or select a destination, those coordinates are sent to Google Maps Platform and our backend to compute your route and find nearby stops. This data is used only to fulfill your request, is not linked to your identity, and is not stored after your request is processed. We do not build or retain a location history.
Anonymous trip and stop-choice analytics
By default, the App sends anonymous analytics to our backend to understand how travelers use the App. You are told about this the first time you open the App, and you can opt out at that time or at any point afterward in Settings (see "Your choices" below). When you opt out, the App sends no analytics.
The analytics we collect are anonymous and contain no personally identifiable information. They include:
- General route region (origin and destination at the U.S. state level — not precise addresses)
- Approximate search location (rounded to roughly 100 meters) and whether nearby results were found, each time you search for a stop
- Number of stops planned and the stop types selected (gas, food, hotel, stretch)
- For a planned stop, the set of options that were shown to you and which option you selected — including, for each option, its brand name, its approximate position along your route, and whether it was a brand you had marked as preferred or was a sponsored option
- Whether a selected option was a sponsored placement
- Coarse technical context: your platform (iOS or Android), major operating-system version, App version, and the hour of day
This information is not tied to your identity, your device's advertising identifier, or a precise location. We use it, in aggregate and anonymized form, to understand traveler preferences (for example, how often travelers choose one brand over another when both are shown). Aggregate, anonymized insights of this kind may be shared with or sold to partners; these insights do not identify you and cannot be traced back to you or your device.
Advertising
The App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. By default, AdMob serves personalized ads, which use a device advertising identifier (such as Apple's IDFA on iOS or the Advertising ID on Android) to measure and personalize advertising. This is a form of tracking.
On iOS, the App will not permit AdMob to access your IDFA for tracking unless you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, ads are still shown but are not personalized using your IDFA.
On Android, you can limit ad personalization and reset or delete your Advertising ID in your device settings.
AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve and measure ads. For details on how Google uses this data, see Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. You can control ad personalization as described under "Your choices" below.
Destination history
Your recent destination entries are stored locally on your device (using the operating system's standard local storage). This data never leaves your device and is removed when you uninstall the App.
2. Information we do not collect
- Your name, email address, or any account information — the App requires no account
- A stored history of your precise locations or trips
- Payment information
- Contacts or photos
- Any data we knowingly collect from children — the App is not directed to children under 13
Our anonymous analytics are not linked to your device's advertising identifier. The advertising identifier is used only by AdMob for advertising, as described above, and (on iOS) only with your App Tracking Transparency consent.
3. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as follows:
- Google Maps Platform — to fetch route and points-of-interest data. Requests include only the route and target coordinates, not your identity.
- Google AdMob — for advertising as described above, including advertising-identifier-based tracking on iOS only with your ATT consent.
- Google Cloud — our backend infrastructure processes stop requests and stores anonymous analytics. Requests contain no personally identifiable information.
- Aggregate, anonymized insights — we may share or sell aggregate, anonymized insights derived from stop-choice analytics (for example, how often travelers choose one brand over another). These insights do not identify you or your device.
4. Data retention
Anonymous analytics events are retained for up to 12 months, after which they are automatically deleted. Local device data (destination history, preferences) remains on your device until you delete the App.
5. Your choices
- Analytics: When you first open the App you're shown a notice about anonymous analytics and can opt out right then. You can also opt out any time in the App's Privacy settings. When you opt out, the App sends no analytics.
- Location: You can turn off location permission any time in your device settings. The App's navigation features need location access to work.
- Ads: Your device's privacy settings let you limit ad personalization and reset your advertising identifier. On iOS, personalized ads that use your advertising identifier only happen if you allow it when asked.
- Uninstalling: Removing the App deletes everything stored on your device.
Because our analytics are not linked to your identity or device advertising identifier and contain only coarse, non-identifying information, we do not maintain a personal profile of you that can be looked up, disclosed, or deleted.
6. California residents
We do not sell or share your personal information. The aggregate insights we may share are anonymized and do not identify you or your device. Because we do not collect information that identifies you, we do not maintain personal information about you that can be accessed, looked up, or deleted.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy at this URL with a new effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
